I have setup my oulook junk folder auto archive settings to delete all emails in it every day but emails are not being deleted...my junk email folder has items form last week...why are emails not being deleted automatically per auto archive settings? Please see link with a screens shot of the settings..This is driving me nuts:-(

That might be what you have set for that folder when auto-archive runs. How often do you have auto-archive set to run (the default is every 14 days)? So with this setting, every 14 days, anything more than 1 day old will get deleted.

Have a look at Outlook's Options, Other, AutoArchive button, run AutoArchive every xx days.

Is it just some random junk mail items that are not being deleted after a day or is it that the setting is not working at all for all junk mail?

The settings are not working at all:-(, If I chanee the default auto archive settings in Outlook's Options, Other, AutoArchive button, run AutoArchive every xx days then it also affects the junk folder but I want the junk folder to have it's own (different) auto archive settings

Yes. I run different AutoArchive options for different folders - but I haven't actually looked to see if they are obeying these settings. I have just changed the Junk Mail folder to the same settings as you have so I'll be able to report back in 24 hours if it works or not.

Outlook obeys the individual folder settings relative to when it runs. If it only runs every two weeks, the autoarchive process will only happen at that time, no matter what each folder's specific 'criteria' is. The individual folder settings really should be labeled/named to indicatate that this setting is the criteria when autoarchive runs. Unfortunately, it's current labeling makes most people think that it's an actual action, when it is not.

After a few tests I have to agree with smah. It is the main AutoArchive setting (under Tools, Options, Other, AutoArchive) that controls how frequently AUtoArchive runs.

So even if you set some folders to archive (or delete) daily, weekly or monthly, it won't happen if the AutoArchive is set to six-monthly intervals.SO the soilution is to set every folder's archive setting individually and then manually run File, Archive and choose the Archive all folders according to their AutoArchive settings.

I'm going to feedback this to MS as it is just plain stupid. The individual folder settings should override the main setting and not the other way around.

tf1 thanks for the information, I agree with you, is stupid, not to mention confusing
