I cannot move items from my Exchange mailbox into my pst file, I just get the following message. "Cannot move the items. The item cannot be moved. It was either already moved or deleted, or access was denied."

The pst is only 400mb and is stored in a folder I have full access to.

I'm running Vista if that makes any difference.

Any ideas ?

Disable your antivirus software and then try again. If thay doesn't work, try starting outlook in safe mode and see if you can move it that way. I suspect a plugin in Outlook is likely causing this issue such as AntiVirus or some other Plugin that is locking this message preventing it from being moved.

START | RUN | Outlook.exe /safe

If that does resolve your issue, then you should disable each plug in, one at a time, and test again to find the culprit.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice but no joy. Much as I like Office 2007 I'm sorely tempted to go back to 2003, at least it worked !

OH! you're running Outlook 2k7... OK, well try this, create a new PST file and try to move the message to the new PST. If that works, then try to move a message from your old PST to the new PST. if that works to, then it seems like yur PST may have an error, you can then try running the inbox repair tool ( and see if that resolves your pst issue...
OR...
move everything from your old PST to your new PST and delete the old.

Hope that helps, good luck! (btw, I love Outlook 2k7 too, I wouldn't move back; try and make it work)

Sorry, should have said 2007 in my original post.

I tried creating a new pst, can't move anything into it from either my old pst or my inbox.

When I try and move from my old pst to my new pst I get "You don't have the approriate permission to perform this operation".

When I try and move from my inbox to either pst I get "Cannot move the items. The item cannot be moved. It was either already moved or deleted, or access was denied."

I can move from my old pst into my inbox or any sub-folder in my inbox.

I can create folders in either of my pst's.

I can delete anything in either pst.

I'll try the inbox repair tool for the hell of it but I'm not holding my breath !

Keep in mind that networked .pst files have never been supported by Microsoft (going back to Exchange 4.0). And mainly for reasons like this. Move the .pst file locally.

MarrsMan, did you ever find out what the cause for the "cannot move items" in Outlook 2007 was? I am having the exact same problem and have had no luck so far.

Thanks, Steve
