Outlook 2007 nickname cache slow

Hi,
am in the process of setting up new PCs. Win XP Pro, Office 2003 with Outlook 2007. When some users /on some PCs start sending a new email, the nickname cache responds very slowly - it takes some 3 - 5 seconds for the names to appear. Copied the same .nk2 file to another pc/user where it responds promptly. Made a new outlook profile for the user with no effect.
Is there a way to make the nickname cache behave correctly without actually deleting it - as some people would appreciate keeping the current one.

Have you tried reinstalling Outlook on the problem machine?

Does that problem machine have any special configuration, like multiple hard drives, installation on a HDD other than the default C:?

Defragmented the hard drive?
