I'm using Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Word. When I type a new message, or compose a reply to a message, using the keyboard on my Dell Studio 1569 laptop, an extra space gets inserted. Example: I try to type don't and I get don 't. I try to type can't and I get can 't. WHY?

This only happens in Outlook, not in Word or any other application. And it only happens on this computer. On another PC I am able to create new messages and reply to messages and the apostrophe key works normally.

My first guess on this was "evil gnomes" but then I remembered, I killed all of them with the weed whacker.

My second thought was that the ' key is near the space bar, and maybe it's getting both of them, but then you mentioned this only happens in Outlook.

Then I thought... what Font are you using? Is it that you've got a fixed width font, and it "appears" to be a can 't but in reality, it is a can't but the space between the font size from N to T is the same, and makes it look like a space?

Also, does this same thing happen if you enter information into a calender appointment? (In either detail or the "Location" or "Description"? Can you try those and let us know the outcome?) It will help to narrow down what the root of the issue is here.

Best Regards,
Scott

Evel gnomes? LOL. But maybe you are correct.

Let me clairfy first that I incorrectly stated that an a space was appearing before the apostrophe. It is actually after. When I press the apostrophe key which is not near the space what I see happen on the screen is that an apostrophe is inserted and then the curser jumps one space to the right.

In my Stationery, I am using Notebook. I changed it to Elipse to get a different font. That did not work.

The problem only exists with Mail. I tried Contacts, Calendar and Notes. The apostrophe works normally.

Did you check your autocorrect options? Is someone messin wit you?

Gruuuu, I just checked autocorrect. There are no entries for the apostrophe. But that was a good idea.

Thanks, Mel.

What language/language bar settings and Unicode are you using?
Also, are you using Word as your editor in Outlook, or Outlook native capability? (RTF, raw text)?

Maybe something in one of those areas is causing it to be funky.

Scott

Scott,

I am using Word as the editor in Outlook. When I use word by itself, there is no apoatrophe problem.

My Language Setting is English (United States). How do I navigate to find the language bar settings and Unicode?

Mel

Control Panel, Language & Regional Settings.
It's on one of the tabs/buttons in there.

Scott,

The keyboard is English (United States). I've checked all the tabs and sub menus. Nothing unusual there.
