People,
Banging my head here. I installed Outlook 2007 on my Vista Home Premium OS (64 bit). Account is set up correctly:
POP3: pop.gmail.com 995 (SSL)
SMTP: smtp.gmail.com 587 (TLS)
Outgoing Server: (SMTP) requires authentication (checked)
same settings as my XP machine.
Thing is I keep getting the error message of:
Task <user>@gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I did some checking and it asked me to make sure "TELNET" was turned on as Vista does not turn it on automatically. I turned that on and ran Oulook again but still the same message. All my POP etc.. is turned on in GMail since it works fine in XP.
I also tried to Telnet pop.gmail.com 995, smtp.gmail.com 557 but kept getting the message:
> telnet pop.gmail.com 995 "connecting to pop.gmail 995...Could not open connection to host, on port 995..failed"
I also tried pop.googlemail.com 995 but same message:
I ping the pop.gmail.com and get the following:
Pinging gmail-pop.l.google.com [74.125.53.109] with 32 bytes of data:

I do a tracert pop.gmail.com and get the following:
Tracing route to gmail-pop.l.google.com [74.125.53.109]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
It complets in that 30 hops and at the end it says "trace complete".
I have also tried to TELNET the ip address but get the same error.
Could anyone help out here?
