Outlook 2007 Blocks Link to Folder

In OL 2007, I made a public folder that only a few people have access to. So instead of explaining to them how to get to it, I right clicked the folder and chose "send link to this folder". I sent it to myself to test it and in my inbox, that email has a message at the top that says "OL blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachment: Folder.xnk"

WTF? Its from my Outlook to my Outlook. How unsafe could it be?

Anyway, how do I unblock it?

Thank you. Thank you very much.

You can't send a shortcut as an attachment anymore. There might be a way to disable that security feature, but it's not really necessary:

You can send the path to the folder, pasted as a "web link" in your email. I believe this will work regardless of whether you are sending the email in HTML format or text format. (I could be wrong about that, however. But try it out!)

Navigate to the folder, and copy the path out of the address bar in the folder window. Then go to your email, hit "ctrl-k" and then paste the path. You need to paste it as a link, otherwise if you have spaces the link will break at the space and it won't work.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks!!

I get to the folder from the shortcuts list, the only way I know how. R clicking the folder gives an option to send as an attachment. If I did nav to the folder for the path, it wouldnt help because I want these people to have one click access to it thats always "right there" in their OL, no fuss no muss, and they dont have to set anything up.

Why can't you send a shortcut as an attachment if its a default option??

Clicking on a shortcut causes an automatic action to a program. Who knows what program will open?

Clicking a LINK causes the default internet browser to open, and you can see where the link is taking you by hovering over the link.

When you are browsing the folder, can you not see the path to the folder? It's in what is called the address bar. If you can't see the address bar, go to "View", "Toolbars" and then "Address Bar". Enable that. Then you should be able to see the path to the folder. Then follow my instructions and people will very easily be able to get to that folder. It will always be there in their OL, no fuss, no muss. Nothing needs to be set up. Click a link, and away you go.

Thanks!!
