When I open Outlook it kind of gets greyed out and then just closes. It give me an error of "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened". I have 2 more people here that the same thing happened to and 1 of them has Outlook XP. All three of us cannot connect to the exchange all of the sudden. The remaining 250 people in the building do not have this problem. Any suggestions?

Ran out of licenses on the Exch. Server?
Check the Eventlogs.

Hello,

I am having this problem too. It seems our mail provider has switched to the latest Exchange version this weekend and now when I start up Microsoft Office Outlook (2003)I get this error. Outlook 2003 was running fine previously when they were running the old version of Exchange.

It seems to be related to the PST files but I can't seem to determine what to do to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Roger

This was fixed this morning so our Exchange service provider must have fixed it.

I still have this same problem. Just upgraded from Outlook XP to Outlook 2003 and cannot start the new version. The old one worked fine. Am trying to connect to an Exchange Server. In the new version, the domain name part of the login dialog is greyed out; I can only enter user name and password. Wonder if that's related. Am just lucky I didn't upgrade both my machines so can get my email from the other one. Any help?

I had a problem after upgrading to Office2003 whereby I could not launch outlook again. Kept telling me Exchange server unavailable.

I used the following command line option from the Office11 folder:

outlook /importprf .\.prf

This caused outlook to start a new profile for me. Of course, I lost all my settings, but at least I can open it up and check email again!

It might also be helpful to use the Mail account setup wizard from the Control Panel. Perhaps removing all the items in there can also help. I didn't think of this until after I had solved my problem.

RobAlex,
try to change the settings in "Control Panel" Mail icon

The command line option to create a new profile worked for me. Thanks, ibanezplayer!

I have this same problem. I am using McAfee Spamkiller that part of McAfee Internet Security 2004. Outlook will not Open UNLESS I Reboot then it will work for 5 minutes or so. Then it will not again unless I reboot.Logging off my account and logging back on will not work either. Outlook Express and other users on my computer can open outlook 2003 with no problem anytime. When logged into their account. My OS is Win XP Pro. Any Ideas. I tried using the suggestion put forth in this thread No Luck.
