I have a user who receives briefings in Microsoft Word 2003 by way of e-mail attachment(Outlook 2003). The user receiving the e-mail cannot open or save the attachment from the generic Patrol Officer Profile.
However if the Patrol Officer e-mails a briefing attachment using Word 2003 from their personal profile utlizing the same machine the user can open and save the attachment.
Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

Can anyone else open the attachment or is it just that one user? Explain what the "generic Patrol Officer Profile" does. If "personal profile" works then why use the "generic Patrol Officer Profile" to send e-mail?

Yes it is just one person out of 20 who can not open the attachment. The generic Patrol officer profiles are utilized by 50 patrol officers on 4 machines (4 seperate profiles), due to the turnover rate and multiplicity of users it was determined the best option would be to create 4 generic profiles to be utilized by patrol officers.
Therefore the problem he is having is opening the attachment received from the genereic profiles. Only supervisors have their profiles on the local machines. When he receives the briefing from the supervisors profile the attachment can be read.

If they are using Outlook Express:
Open Outlook Express.
Click on Tools in the menu, and scroll down to Options.
Click on the Security tab.
Make sure “Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus” is UNCHECKED.
Click on the Apply button. Click on OK.

What exactly happens when you try to open the attachment? Is there and error, is it grayed out? Is it the same for all attachments: .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc? Have you tried creating a new profile and testing? His profile could be corrupt.

The error message is "Can't create BreifingPassOn.doc. Right click the folder you want to create this file in,and then click properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder".
I have done this to no avail.

Delete your Temp Internet Files First. Then try to open the attachment. If that doesn't work do a search for you OLK* folder and make a backup, then delete everything inside it and reboot. If that dosen't work try this:

1. Click My Computer, and then double-click drive C.
2. On the File menu, click New, and then click Folder.
3. Name the folder temp0.
4. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
5. Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\
6. In the right pane, double-click OutlookSecureTempFolder.
7. In Value Data field, type C:\temp0\ and then click OK.
8. Exit Registry Editor.
9. Restart the computer.

Thank you. I will try it first thing MONDAY...

Thank you very much, the registry edit did the trick and he is currently working properly
