XP Pro. When I boot my computer and log-in, if I try to open Outlook it takes at least a minute or two. If I try to open a new email, Word takes even more ages to open. I don't have too many TSR's in the background, I have a gig of ram and a 2ghz processor. Is Outlook's performance this pig-like for everyone or is it just me? It runs a little faster after the computer's been on for a while but when you try clicking on a message the preview pane can take 30 seconds to respond.

Does your Anti-Virus prgram do a startup scan, or update?

I run with anti-virus disabled because it's such a pig. I turn it on when I'm bringing in something from an untrusted outside source.

I've tried other anti-virus programs but they all suck. You're left staring blankly at the screen while they chug away, scanning for threats that aren't there. And whenever a threat does come along, oh, boy!, they're too new for the anti-virus to recognize. Grr.
