I have set up my domain with a new host and cannot get the mail to work. After repeated tries they are convinced that it is a setting on my machine. I can see mail in the webmail inbox but cannot get Outlook to download it.
All usernames and passwords are correct. All Internet Security and Firewalls are disabled. Everything has been deleted and recreated more than once. The Outlook error message I get is:
"Send test e-mail message: The specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings close this dialog, then click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab."
I changed the port at the suggestion of the host but that won't allow the incoming server to connect at all.
When I change the outgoing server to my old mail server the test message is sent and I can find it in the webmail inbox but Outlook will not download it.
Anyone have any insight... PLEASE (note… hint of desperation in my typing)

drtom,

Due to you other post about changing hosts and not being capable of getting ws_ftp connected, I would do the same here.

Delete all your old accounts that connected to the old host.

Then create new pop accounts to your new host.

Many hosting providers have scripts that will perform this configruation for most popular mail clients. See if yours have this service. Or they have detailed instructions on settings to connect to their pop3 mail system.

Thanks for both replies.
Seems like the FTP issue is resolved for the moment and my incoming mail server is working but the outgoing server will not connect.
I think it was a matter of time before the transfer of the nameservers was resolved.
I'll keep plugging away on the outgoing side.

drtom.

I hope that you have the hosts requirements for outgoing

The server name, If authentication is required or not etc.

There are differing conventions; some use mail.xxx.xxx
others smtp.xxx.xxx.

Just a reminder to insure you have the correct settings.

BTW I take it that the FTP solution worked???

Thanks, the FTP solution would seem to have worked. Ultimately I think it was a matter of putting in the time to allow for the transfer of the nameservers as when I entered my site address into IE it all of a sudden went to the new site and not the old one (which is still on the old host's server). FTP in WS_FTP and Dreamweaver both work now.
I shall work on the E-mail suggestions that you have made. Incoming works fine, it's the outgoing server that won't work.

Well it's resolved. Changed the Outgoing server to port 26 instead of port 25. Works now.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
