One of my mail servers is very flaky. When Outlook 2003 tries to connect to this server it often results in a timeout or some other error which causes the connection to fail.
This causes Outlook to give me the dreaded "Enter Network Password" prompt asking me to enter my username & password. They are already entered in the fields and they are correct, all I have to do is click OK and Outlook will try to reconnect to the mail server and download new messages. And Outlook works just fine until the next time a connection to the server fails.
The problem is that when I get the Enter Network Password dialog box Outlook stops dead in its tracks -- at this point Outlook will not attempt to send/receive email from ANY of my accounts. Outlook will remain in this state for days if I don't click OK. This is a major problem because I get all my email on my cellphone which wirelessly syncs with Outlook. If Outlook chokes I don't get any email until I'm back in the office to click 'OK' and that can be several days. Imagine not being able to get any new email for days at a time. BIG PROBLEM!
I need to know how to make Outlook recover from a connection failure without any human interaction.
I just upgraded from Outlook 2000 and this was NOT a problem with OL2000. With OL2000 if a connection failed I didn't even get an error message, it would just try again at the next regularly-scheduled interval. This is what I want OL2003 to do! How do I get OL2003 to operate this way? When a connection with a mail server fails I just want OL to try again on its own without any input from me. PLEASE HELP!
NOTE: This is not the same problem most people have when they get the Enter Network Password dialog box. There are a number of things you can do when OL won't store your account info. This is NOT my problem. Please don't go down this route in advising me. My username & password are correct and they ARE saved in OL. OL works perfectly fine until there is a connection failure.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide!
