Outlook 2003 / POP, Emails stuck in outbox, sending anyway

Hey all,

This is more an annoyance at the moment, but I'd like to fix it.

The computer in question is running XP Pro, SP2. All the most recent updates, etc etc.

I have a user using Outlook 2003 to connect to a POP email address. When sending emails, the email sticks in the outbox and never moves to the sent items folder. However, the email is sent and is received on the other end pretty much immediately.

I tried creating a new profile, creating a new PST, reinstalling Outlook, nothing. It still keeps behaving this way. Any suggestions?

silly question bu do you have 'save copies of messages in sent items folder' checked?

Yes, it is set to save items to sent items. And that's fine, it's not a silly question to point out the obvious, God knows I've missed the obvious before.

Is that never as in never ever ?

Looking at the rules, it doesn't seem like there's an "after being sent" rule that I could use to move the items to Sent Items, unless I'm missing it.

That is correct. We have let it sit for days and it never moves the outbox to the sent items folder. The emails ARE sent, they are transmitted to the POP server and received by the intented recipients.

you don't have 'check messages after sending' as the second choice?
then put '@' as what to search for in the subject, etc.

Does this user have a software firewall, or any other security software running on his machine ?
