When opening an attachment the Outlook process goes into a "not responding" state and will hang for about 30-60 seconds. The Exchange server is on the local lan and the machine otherwise runs like a champ. HTML based email opens with no delay at all...any ideas?

What kind of attachment? How large? Does this affect every workstation on the LAN?

Its just this one workstation...happens to be the CEO's secretary...

If the inbox is pretty full, clean it up a bit and move emails off the server into a PST file on the local drive. Once you get the size down to a reasonable amount, restart Outlook and try it again.

Another advantage of using a PST file, you can try pulling the email with the attachment down to the local file and opening it from there. See if it has the same problem.

Just a note to close this out...I had fat-fingered the DNS address in the network setup..once I fixed that it connected just fine.
