In Outlook 2003, on one userid, the placement of the mouse over an email in the Inbox for a few seconds opens the mail in the preview pane and marks the mail as read, even though the mouse was not clicked. There used to be a setting to say that placement of the mouse over mail does not mark it as open (nor open it) but I can't find where that setting is in Outlook 2003.

I know the setting must be somewhere because it doesn't happen on a second userid - the placement of the mouse there does not mark the mail as read nor open it.

Can someone tell me where this setting is?

Yeah, that bugged me too - it's in Tools, Options, Other, Reading Pane: Unclick "Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane".

Oops, I was wrong: Unclick "Mark item as read when selection changes.
