I have Outlook 2003 running on XP-Pro, & although I can send mail without problem, I cannot receive mail;

If I try to download header & body at the same time I get an Outlook "Out of memory or system resources" error (0x8007000E), & no mail.

If I try to download headers only, some download & then I get an Outlook "the internet header for one of the messages you are downloading exceeds 100KB, possibly indicating a malicious message" error (0x8004210F). if I then try to receive again, I get duplicate of the same few that I managed to get headers for the first time?

I have tried the MS KB suggested fixes for the out of memory error (fixmapi.exe, deleted damaged mail (none) & created & used a new profile. I also have up to date NIS & a freshly scanned system.

Is this likley to be an Outlook issue, or could there be something large & ugly sitting in my providers mail server.

Any advice appreciated.

By NIS I take it you mean Norton Internet Security?
I've had this issue with a customers machine running NIS and it didn't stop until I removed NIS using Norton's own removal tool. [link]http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039[/url]

Did look at everything else but this was the problem. Seemed strange as up until then he said all had been well, guess it was an update that sparked the problem.

It might be worth removing Norton to see if it is causing the issue and not just disabling it (that didn't have any effect for me).
If it doesn't clear it then you can always re-install.
