Outlook 2003 - Inserting other msgs as text

I have a user running Outlook 2003 under Win XP Pro SP2 on both his system at the office and on his home machine.

He has a daily task of assembling an email which is a compilation of several other emails he receives. So what he does is forward the first one, then he does insert/item and gets the Insert Item dialog, selects the next msg from his inbox, clicks on the "text only" radio button and brings that msg in, repeating this for all the emails.

This works fine at the office, but when he works from home some but not all messages import only the msg headers, i.e.

From: <sender name & email>
Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 7:05 PM
To: <user's email>
Subject: <subject of msg>

But the body of the message does not get included.

There seems to be no consistency as to what gets imported normally and what does not in terms of msg size or format or sender.

Note he is NOT using MS Word as email editor.
The same thing happens if he is creating plain text or HTML msgs.

Anyone have an idea why this may be happening?

Thanks,
Jock

Why don't you just highlight everything in the mail messages you want, copy and then paste them into a new message. That will work as long as the messages don't have attachments or inline graphics.

Hi, Donb01

Yes, you are correct, that works fine. However it doesn't include the headers I mentioned in the original post (from/to/subject) when you do that, and that is the format which has been in use forever and which works just fine from this user's office machine.

Besides, for some people cut and paste is a stretch ... and this person is one of us old dogs, so no new tricks if at all possible.

I definitely know what you mean about trying to teach an old dog new tricks, otherwise I would suggest hitting reply for each E-Mail, then copy and paste, and then just X out of the reply box as you copy each E-mail.

Given that's not going to happen, I tried to duplicate the instructions you wrote above using my OL 2003 in an exchange environment. I hit forward, went to the body of the message and hit Insert. I don't have "item" under that list, but I do have "object". I looked in there, but don't see any way of inserting an E-mail as an object. I sniffed around a little more, but couldn't find the answer, so I guess I need to defer to someone with more experience ) Sorry

Hi, donb01

Thanks anyway. My terminology may not be exact because I don't have OL 2K3 here, but I know it acts differently when you are using Word as your email editor and most likely also if you are running exchange.

I think I will put a link to this thread in the MS Office forum as well.
