Outlook 2003 - Inbox keeps emptying

I`m running a server based system at my workplace using SBS 2003 with Outlook 2003 installed for e-mail. All was working fine until I set up a vpn between home and office,I the installed Outlook 2003 onto my client at home over the vpn so I could run an exchange mail box at home. Outlook installed fine but my inbox at work and at home seem to be emptying every day now and I've no idea where my messages are going! Any help appreciated, I'm sure I have probably set something up wrong but not sure where to start.

Does SBS use exchange or pop to deliver the mail?

The answer has always been 42
