Outlook 2003 Does not show read/unread count in Public Folders

This is affecting all Outlook 2003 clients. All Outlook 2000 clients show the count next to the folder just fine. If I look at the folder properties, the option for show read/unread are grayed out. I have administrator rights for the folders. I have tried creating new folder, but all Public folders have this problem.

Has anyone found a resolution for this?

I saw the post thread605-877087 but no resolution.
