outlook 2003 client flickering

i have an outlook 2003 client running in cached exchange mode. when the client is open, the inbox (or any folder view) flickers a few times every 10 seconds or so. i took it off cached exchange mode, same thing happens.
this client is on a dedicated vpn, and i just swapped pc's. it wasn't doing this with the other pc. there is also another pc at this location that uses the vpn for outlook mail and it doesn't have this problem.
any thoughts?

i think it's my processor. an older machine- with stock quote screens updating all the time. when i close the stock program the flickering goes away.
it's only a temp machine anyway.

We have a similar problem - Outlook 2003 loses & gains focus for a few seconds, at intermittent times. We don't have the problem with Outlook 2000. We have a 100Meg network, but there are quite a few PCs on it.
