Hi all...
Using Outlook 2003 I receive pics as attachments OK and can open them to view. I can also attach pics or other files in a new email to send , no worries.
My problem is trying to save them from an email to a folder either using copy or drag 'n drop. I select the pic(s) and r/click "copy" but when I go to "paste" nothing happens. No error msg and no pics.
I have also tried it with other files and the same thing happens. I can send myself any attachment and they all show up OK but I cannot save them anywhere out of Outlook.

Its probably something simple so I hope someone can help.

Windows XP (SP2) MS Office 2003 on a big puter with lotsa memory.

Thanks in advance

Hi, ssshaker

Highlight the message in the inbox.
Click on file/save attachments
Then you can select any or all attachments and you get the usual save dialog to determine where.

OR

Open the message, right click on the attachment and select save as ...

Thanks so much for the reply Jock. When I posted this thread I wanted to add an edit but was unable to as it didn't appear in this forum. Here is the extra info....

Edit: I have browsed through T-T and found a fellow with a similar problem however he was unable to save from the preview pane only. Once he opened the email proper he could then save OK.
One of his replies suggested going to "Save attachments as" and interestingly that works for me too! When I try "copy and paste" or "drag and drop" from the opened email, nothing happens. However, when I close the email I get a msg "You have a large amount of data on the clipboard, do you wish to keep it?" Does that mean the problem is away from Outlook in another area? I have NO problems with drag n drop in any other programmes. I can do a screen capture then paste into a new email message so clipboard appears to be working well :-(

Another update as I've been getting stuck into this thing........
As mentioned I am able to copy/paste or drag/drop anywhere else but in Outlook. It appears that when I copy or drag from Outlook the data goes to the memory (clipboard) but will not paste/drop. Conversely, I am able to drag/drop OR copy/paste INTO Outlook or any other programme I choose. I saw a similar problem on another site and they suggested it may be using Word as the email editor causing the problem. I don't use Word for that but enabled it anyways. Didn't make a scrap of difference :-(

BTW I have tried repairing (no good) then removing Office 2003 and reinstalling after a reboot. Ditto.
BTW 2: At one stage while experimenting I had an error msg pop up "Out of memory at Line: 188". I haven't been able to replicate this error since. Looks like it was a one-off error.
Also ran a registry check and found a few problems there (using Registry Mechanic) but didn't help my prob.
I feel the problem is related to MS Office but can't find where :-(

Hi, Ssshaker

I have verified I am able to drag and drop into an explorer window from Outlook no problem. I don't usually do that, but it does work with a 100K attachment no problem. I don't use Word as my editor.

The message about leaving a lot of stuff in the clipboard is a standard MS Office message asking if you want to keep it for further use or delete it when you close the office app. So something is getting to the clipboard, but maybe not everything...

It rather sounds like you may be short of virtual memory.
Is your VM set to automatic? I trust you are not out of disk space on your boot device? You say you are trying with pics, which can be quite large. Are you able to drag & drop if the attachment is maybe a small .txt file?

Aside from that, I'm afraid I dunno.

Thanks for the reply Jock.
VM has always been set to "auto" and I have been D&Ding my files from Outlook for many years. Pics of all sizes and all types of files including small text files have always worked that way. I Drag n Drop large Avi's (like 4gb+) from folder-folder or drive-drive on a regular basis and have found it much easier than multiple mouse clicks and scrolling through menu's. All that still works fine except in Outlook where I can copy but not paste or drag but not drop.
I owned a computer shop for a decade but never came across this problem in XP. In Win98 a simple reinstall over the top fixed the problem which I did see quite often.

Thanks again for your effort :)
