I have just created a rule for automatic reply to the Internet. The Exchange 2000 Server is properly set up to allow for automatic replies. The rule is set up properly because when I ran it, it did send the specific message out (a template). However, when I go to apply it, I get the following message:

One or more rules could not be uploaded to the Exchange Server and have been deactivated. This could be because some of the parameters are not supported or there is insufficient space to store all your rules.

This is the only rule for this user. The rule is very basic, as follows: Apply after message arrives/where my name is in the To box/when received in a specific date span (After Nov 21 and before Dec 6)/reply using specified template/except if out of office message.

I have been working on this all day and cannot find what parameter would not be supported or how 1 rule could be too large to store. I have looked at the Microsoft knowledgebase, how-to, you name it.

I hope someone here can explain what this message might be telling me! Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Thanks, Smah! I didn't find this article in my search. I have reduced the size of the rule down as far as I believe I can. The e-mail reply is 15KB (I can only get it down as far as 14KB). According to article #241325 which was linked in article #886616, each rule property is approximately 400-500 bytes. There are 5 properties that I am using in the rule - which computes to about 2500 bytes. I'm not real good at computing, but wouldn't that be only 2.5KB? I don't believe I'm anywhere near the maximum of 32KB for the rule. None of the other workaround methods pertained to my situation as there is only one rule and it's not requesting that any files be moved.

The article doesn't address the issue of "some of the parameters are not supported."

This is supposed to be a simple set up and I just don't understand what is wrong.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions for me, I would really appreciate it. Also, maybe I'm not understanding something correctly, so please tell me.

Thanks again. Anne

Does your rule send/forward or otherwise include many addresses? I can't put my hands on the article right now, but this message can also occur when you have a rule that sends to many addresses. The way around that condition is to create a single distribution list that contains the many individual addresses (if that applies in your case).

No. The template is only sent to someone who sends an e-mail so I don't have a distribution list. This rule is to emulate the Out of Office Assistant.

I have followed all the directions for making sure the Exchange Server allows automatic replies and all of the directions to set up the rule. This is so frustrating because I know the rule works, I just can't get it to activate.

Thanks, Smah! I'm hoping to figure this out by tomorrow, before the holiday. I'm still trying on my end, too, but if you can think of any more suggestions, I'm really open to them!

Anne
