My PST file is 2.1GB. I know that is over the threshold so I finally took some time to archive. After an hour or so of archiving, I went back to check the size of the new Outlook PST and saw that the file was the EXACT same size as before the archiving (I now have a 1.6GB Archive file now).

What did I do wrong?

I believe it will remain the same size until you delete something, then Compact it

Sorry should have added:
Rt Mouse click on personal folder > Properties > Advanced > compact now
