I am using Outlook 2003 at work and have email rules set to sort email coming in from several internet accounts as well as the Exchange server here at work. Everything worked fine and still does since I upgraded from 2002 EXCEPT the alerts for my secondary accounts.

Email coming in to the Exchange server (my primary account) goes to my Inbox. Other internet accounts get moved into sub-folders. When email comes in to my primary I get a sound, the semi-transparent alert window and the envelope icon in my toolbar. When email comes in to my secondary accounts and goes into the sub-folders I got nothing.

I found in ORGANIZE and RULES & ALERTS how to set a sound and also put a custom message into DISPLAY IN NEW ITEM ALERT WINDOW for each individual email rule. Now when email comes in to my secondary accounts I get a sound BUT I still get NO alert window and NO envelope icon in my toolbar. The messages are there and everything appears fine except no alerts other then sound.

I noticed in ADVANCED EMAIL OPTIONS that the alert message checkbox has a note stating (default Inbox only) so does this mean that Outlook 2003 is not capable of giving any visual alert to messages that get filtered into other folders? Doesn't quite sound like a step in the right direction if that is the case as Outlook 2002 did that just fine.

Any suggestions???

Thanks!

Hi
It would seem that the option is meant only for the Default mailbox, so it will only display for what you have set as the default mailbox, with other points of note being available at:

As an option, a freeware utility that looks like it does the business is available at:

Hope this helps. Maybe one day MS will introduce the mail alert for all accounts...

I did find that after I restarted Outlook I started getting alerts for secondary accounts that I set up thru the rules BUT these had no visibility options, they went to the middle of my screen and after I read the email I still had to manually go back and close the alert window. Too much of a pain.

I'll check out the utilities you recommended as soon as I can. A few other things MS seems to of overlooked are closing my original message when I want to RESEND it and in TASKS allow me to SAVE without having to save AND CLOSE! Sometimes I like to save my changes midstream just in case something crashes. Oh well...

Thanks.

Good luck on the utilities...

Point 1 - closing message
Tools -> Options -> E-Mail Options -> Close original message on reply or forward

The check box is not selected by default.

Point 2 - Open a New Task
Tools -> Customize
Select the middle tab "Commands"
Ensure "File" is selected on the left pane
In the right pane, scroll down to "Save"
Left click and hold on the "save"
Drag and drop "Save" onto the toolbar and place "where you like"
Click Close

You can now save your Tasks without having to close...
