Outlook 2002 slow to send receive

My outlook (2002) does not send or receive email until I click on a folder or hit the send receive button. Usually I just keep my inbox open and messages arrive without any prompting. Has anyone else encountered this, and do you know a fix?

Hi,

Click on Tool, Options, in the General Tab see the option Check for new messages every__minutes. See what time duration u had specified in that. The less u specify the more frequently it will OE will download the mails.
