I have noticed that when I start Outlook 2002 and hit send/receive it displays the dialog box and shows two tasks being carried out. Both show exactly the same information i.e. my account name and sending and receiving plus the progress. However I only have one email account to check, and if I leave Outlook open and hit send/receive again, only one task is listed this time, as I would expect. It is only if Outlook is quit and then restarted that two tasks are shown.

Has anybody seen this and does anyone know what the second task is?

Thanks

Stuart

Stuart, you probably have "send messages on start" selected somewhere in your settings. And you should. That's in case you're working offline and sending mail--it goes into your Outbox.

I suspect that while Outlook is open after it's first go-round, it knows nothing is in the Outbox so it doesn't do the send...

Mine does the same thing. Brainbench MVP for Microsoft Word

Thanks Dreamboat, I suspect this is it, although I cannot find an option for "send messages at start" in my Options screens. I changed from Outlook 2000 and some things seem to have disappeared. For example before if Outlook tried to perform an auto send/receive and I was not dialled in, it did nothing and just left it. Now it produces an error to say it could not connect. Same if I send a message offline, it does not just sit in the outbox but has to tell me it could not connect. Is there any way to stop this too?

I also notice it no longer says how many emails are waiting, so it would not surprise me if other such useful features had been removed!!

Thanks

Stuart
