Almost every day one of my users opens outlook and it gives him an error: "The data file 'Personal Folder' was not properly closed. This file is being checked for problems"

It scans his .pst for a couple minutes and then closes it. he has a big .pst so it takes a while for this to run. What could be causing this? He closes outlook properly every day when he leaves.

It appears it is becoming corrupted. Ask the individual to split the .pst into 2 of them. If it continues then run the scanpst.exe against it. Scanpst.exe is aautomatically loaded on every machine just do a search for it.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

That didn't do it. I've run scanpst on it everytime it comes up and still nothing.

Try moving it to a different place. Place it on the root of the C: and then try it.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Also remove all of the rules that are applied to that .pst.

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Hi There,

I am having the same problem.

There are two things I have noticed about the problem:

1. It only happens on the laptops in our office (amongst other things they have offline folders enabled).

2. It only started happening when we installed the latest service pack of office. (we are now running Outlook 2002 SP3)
