Well, Microsoft has done it again, they've put out a program before it should be, I would normally consider the First SP to be a complete program.....so heres my current problem. I have setup Office XP on my home pc, when adding email accounts, i can successfully add as many pop3 accounts as i want, and Outlook will work fine. But when i add our Exchange server to the list of email sources, Outlook starts up, asks for password, authenticates, and then...Begins not responding every 10 seconds then responding for a second then not responding again over and over and over....essentially dead. The account information never comes through. And i have to end the task Safe mode doesnt help anything, uninstall-reinstall didnt help, repair install didnt help, hitting keyboard with fist didnt help....Im hoping there is a reason for this behaviour that can be identified and repaired somehow...If anyone has seen this problem or know a solution, please respond!!!

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

Would seem to be some sort of networking problem maybe?? I have a couple of clients working on Outlook2002 with Exchang 5.5 and they dont experience any problems. That would be my first thought.....
Could also be an issue with the Virus Software you have, if any? If you do have a virus defence package what are you using?? Try disabling it completely and then launch Outlook, see if that works......? And then if so, stop the scanning of .dll files. Jay~

Im using Norton Personal Firewall and blackice and Norton AV. And ive tried disabling them all, and the error still occurs, it almost seems to me that its a newly installed glitch into my OS ...maybe a repair install on Win2k would help?? any other suggestions?

Id try and leave the reinstall of 2K till the last resort, always better to try and fix it first, best way to learn!

Try takining the PC off the network, ie, taking out the network cable out of the back and see if it makes a difference..... Jay~

its an idea... A reminder though. This is my Home Pc..hooked up through @home. Then doing a remote auth onto the exchange server...so its a little bit different than getting to the exchange server from insidd the corporate network. Im wondering if it is having connection difficulties in the new version of Outlook 2002

Lo....it seems it only happens when the net cable is installed....when no net is on....it gives the "offline" error...but the software still responds....it DEFFINATELY seems that it doesnt like having to get to an exchange server!! interetsing....

Web still works when connected....internet email works on Outlook, but....hmm....i wonder if the New outlook has some security encryption that is too good for our server or somthin??? i dunno....

Thakns for your ideas....and i hope we can find an anser to this!

OK, think I have it...
You may be getting this slow down if you have any of these....

a) If you have configured a Dial-Up Adapter by using TCP/IP as a protocol.

b) If DNS is enabled on your computer.

c) If there is not a DNS server available, ie, your work server may not be DNS or is off line.....

What to do.....!!
Go to the Control Panel and double click on the Network icon, go to the properties of TCP/IP, go to the DNS tab, and disable DNS.

(PS: If you dont need TCP/IP then remove it, but I think you may do...??)

Hope this works!

i deffiniately need TCP/IP and DNS to be enabled on my connection, as i am connected through those protocols to my cable modem. As far as dns not being available it shouldnt matter because (A) the server i am connecting to was grabbed by IP address, and (B) the internet still browses fine. there would be no reason that i would have turned DNS on, on my computer, as I do nothing that would warrent my need for my own dns server. Maybe it is a setting on our Exchange server that doesnt respond to the OUtlook 2002 requests
