Hey all.

We have rolled out Office XP on our Windows 2000 pro client PC's.

However, on some PC's (regardless if we are signed on as administrator or not), when you double click an e-mail attachement, it will not open.

You only get the option to save to disk.

However, on other PC's (same attachment) double clicking the file opens it fine.

We have done nothing different to those that work and those that don't.

Windows 2000 Pro SP3 and Office XP SP1

Thanks in advance

Are these Excel files?

Try going into Excel and doing Tools / Options / General Tab / Uncheck the 'Ignore Other Applications' option.

Hi thanks for the reply and sorry for the slow response.

Found the error. On some PC's the registry key
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\10.0\OUTLOOK\SECURITY)

The level1Remove entry had a whole list of extension types listed. The extensions listed were not able to open directly from within Outlook.

I am unsure why some PC's were affected and not others! (same setup, user rights, office installation, etc..)
