Hello:

I have an XP pro OS with Outlook 2000 running. If I connect to the server I have no connectivity problems. As soon as I try and dial-in I can't connect. I'm thinking there may be some setting that needs to be set for dial-in. Outlook does not even generate errors it just puts up a dialog box Retry work offline or cancel. I can work offline fine.

Thanks in advance

What happens when you hit RETRY? Can you ping the server when dialed in?

If you can ping the server successfully but still can't connect you may want to try releasing your IP information and restarting your machine. Dial in and see if you can connect. Although this was an issue that was more predominant in the 9x client but if all else fails I would give it a shot. joegz

JOEGZ:Thanks allot. I know what the problem is. It's the gateway on the ppp adapter. I have tried to reset it ,but It keeps coming up wrong. I used IPConfig It just seems to reset the NIC not the modem adapter. Do you know how to reset this. I got an error saying that the PPP adapter is not set for DHCP. Do you think I should set it for static address. Mabey it's something with XP. All my other machines don't have this problem.

Thanks you.

Well thanks for trying. I did try to release the adapter but with no success. I think I may have some kind of authentication problem. I was speaking to a friend of mine and he said you don't configure the PPP adapter. I also say that it's using MS-CHAP. Do you think this could be causing a problem? It still works fine on the Network but as soon as I dialin I can't seem to connect to the exchange server. I even tried to change the way the account is setup and it still would not connect. I'm thinking mabey outlook 2k client is messed up. To be honest i don't know what is wrong with this thing. Thanks for the help.

If the Gateway settings look wrong when you dial in, it's because Windows 2000 dial up networking uses the dialing computer's IP address for the gateway. This is correct, though it seems wierd.

Check the server's SYSTEM logs. If they report that your laptop is trying to connect to the server via a trust relationship, you will be able to log on locally, but not via dial up networking. To fix this, remove the laptop from the domain (change its network from a Domain to a Workgroup connection. I used WORKGROUP as the workgroup name. It doesn't matter what it is, this is temporary. WARNING: When you disconnect from the domain, your domain logon and password won't work for logging onto the computer. Make sure you know the password for the computer's Administrator account BEFORE you make this switch.)

Now connect locally and change the network back to your domain. You can now log on with your domain password. Make sure your Dial-up Connection's TCP/IP configuration has both your TCP/IP and DNS to automatically receive their settings from the DHCP server.

You should now be able to log on via dialup networking and access all network assets you have permissions for.

Good luck!
