The OUT2KSEC.EXE (ver 1.0.4205) has been applied to some copies of Office 2000 - fine.

The update prevents other applications creating email and automatically putting it in the Outlook outbox - so what?

Some of the users regularly use Word to create email merges, this function has now been effectively blocked - not good.

I've tried removing and re-installing Office and the update persists - VERY awful

Does anybody have any ideas (obviously a re-format is an option, but I was hoping for something more elegant!)

I've now read what I should have before I started.

Microsoft Office 2000 SP-2 contains the Outlook 2000 security update. It's really nasty, especially if you're running it as a POP client rather than an Exchange client.

The most positive thing that Microsoft can say about neutering their APIs is that "This is a limitation of the current design and improvements are being evaluated for the next version of Microsoft Office."

I would urge anybody who uses MS-Office to read

support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q262/6/31.ASP

and

support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q262/6/34.ASP

BEFORE applying SP-2.
