Outlook 2000 spell checker

When I try to run spell checker on a email I get errors:Error occurred when checking spelling .I hit ok and then I get the error again.I hit ok and then the email gets sent.When I go into email options and go to custom.dic it opens notepad.exe with no text in the file.
