Outlook 2000 Rules Wizard 1

I would like to write a rule that allocates an action to any incoming mail that does not contain a specific word in the sender's address. Any one any ideas????????

I'm looking at Outlook XP but I'd guess 2k is the same...

Go into the rules Wizard, click New.

At the top, click the little button for "Start from Blank Rule"

Select "after new messages arrive", then Next

You'll see an entry for "with specific words in the sender's address" (it's about 1/3 of the way down).

If you don't see this entry, then it doesn't exist in 2K. See if anything on that list will work for you -- possibly "specific words in the message header"?

Thanks for the response; yes, the "specific words" facility is within 2000 but this doesn't achieve what I want to do. I want to identify mails that do not have a specific word in the senders address.

Davezsmith was on the right track - you just need to think backwards.

Rule #1:
Apply when message arrives with specific words in the senders address Stop processing more rules.

Rule #2:
For all messages, delete (or move or highlight or whatever you want to do).

To create rule #2, just click through the first criteria selection. You will be informed by clippy that this rule will apply to all messages (that weren't caught by rule #1).

Forgive my apparent stupidity...

What words do you put in "Specific Words".
I can't leave it blank. Outlook won't let me.

I think I'm missing something simple, but I just can't see it.

kpetursson, I pointed you to this thread for the logic, not neccessarily the exact rule. Your question in thread605-967257 was how to delete messages with blank 'from' or 'subject' fields. In your case the logic would be: if there is something in the 'from' field (like @ or .), then stop processing rules. Anything left would be blank and that's what you'd want to delete.

but with that logic I will be unable to continue to use my other rules.

I will continue to look for an alternate solution.

Perhapse I will have to stop using Outlook if these blank emails become unmanageable.

If you make those two rules last, they wouldn't affect your other rules.

I didn't really think about how it applies the rules. I didn;t consider that it had a defined order. but being a computer, i guess it would have to wouldn't it.
