Outlook 2000 Out of Office Asst. and SPAM

I was hoping someone could possibly reply with an answer to this:

I have OOO active for my mailbox. The problem is it sends a reply back for all messages I get in my spam folder as well as the ones I want it to that come to my inbox. I have searched the web and can find no way to disable the sending for spam messages. Is there a way to do this?

I did read something about setting up rules but that would seem quite complicated not knowing who would be sending the emails while I'm out.
