I am trying to set up a mail rule to automatically file my sent items in specific folders.
However all I can seem to find is an option to 'move a copy of the message' to another folder and not move the actual message itself or move a copy and then delete the original.

I notice a "custom action" option - how are these set-up/defined?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy.

In Tools-Options under E-mail setting there is an option
"Save Copies of items in sent mail box" if you uncheck this then no copy is made in the sent items box and the only copy is the one you make in the required folder with your rule.

Thanks for prompt reply. I did come across this option and wondered whether this would be a solution. Presumably Outlook will move the message immediately after it is sent?

Do you have any experience with the "custom actions" option?

Thanks again!

Mail rules will only work on messages in the inbox by default. You can make the rules that you want, then manually run them on your sent items.
