Outlook 2000 loads very slow. When I first loaded the system it started within 2-3 seconds with the same .PST file, but now it takes a good 25-30 seconds. I am using an email POP3 account, but none of that has changed. I have done the MS Updates, and have had problems with IE and the scroll bar (fixed that one thanks to Tek-Tips-Forums). Any ideas or places to look? Bruce

If the size of the files you are referencing has not changed and your networking has remained unchanged, then I would look at clearing out windows temp file and internet junk file directories.

These directories being full, slows down the creation and access of the temp files used by the Office programs.

Post back if this does not solve the issue.

Cleaned out these files and no change. Outlook still takes longer than normal to load. Seems like it started to happen just after updates were done from MS, since then I have backed off almost all of the updates (IE Scroll bar problem started this!). The Outlook version is 2002, not 2000 as I stated in my original line (sorry, I have WIN2k). Outlook loads but the first dialog box that shows who it is licensed to stays there for 25-30 seconds, then everything seems to run fine. Any other ideas? Bruce

Check for adware using "Ad-aware" this fixed the problem for me.

I just began experiencing the same problem within the last day or so. I pruned down my inbox quite a bit, but no help. I'm not using 'ad aware' so must be something else.

I'm using Outloook 2002.

I resolved my problem. My daughter had been home from school and had started using instant messaging. The "enable instant messaging in Outlook" button was clicked on in Outlook/Options/Other. I unchecked the box and now Outlook pops up immediately.
