I'm running W98/SE and using Outlook 2000 for my email. Sometimes when I exit Outlook and go about other business later I get new email notification. When I check the program manager it shows that Outlook is still active but I can't click on the icon to read new email. In program manager I select to close Outlook and I get the message that Outlook is not responding. I can close it anyway and reopen to read email. Does anyone know why Outlook is not closing correctly?

Outlook 2000 doesn't close when exiting.

I had a similar problem albeit on W2000. Have a look at this link which solved my problem:
I was using Winfax which was causing the problem.
