Hi there,

I have a question about moving contacts in Outlook 2000. I have updated my os from Windows NT to Windows 2000 and installed a new hard drive but left the old hard drive in the machine so I can still access anything I forgot about. I have copied over my .pab file and that brought only a portion of my contacts over. However, it didn't bring over any folders of contacts I had made. Any ideas on what type of file these are stored in?? Thanks in advance.

Could possibly be stored in a .PST file might want to check those.

Go back to your old hard drive and bring up Outlook 2000.
Goto File select Import/Export
Select Export to a file
Scroll down until you see Personal Folder File (.pst)
Select next
You will see you file and folder structure for Outlook.
Click on contacts and then click next
enter the path were you want the file to be saved.
I would rename the file contacts and include the user ID of the contacts in the file.
That exports them
Next Import them into your new Outlook.
You may have dupilcates and that can be resolved by selecting replace duplicates.

If you have no email in your new Outlook then just copy your old .PST file over top of your new .PST file.

If you just want your Contacts, then do what Tcucolo says.

If you have new email in your new Outlook and you want all your Contacts and your old email, then do as Tcucolo says but instead of selecting the Contacts folder, select the parent folder (often called Personal Folder) and follow the rest of the instructions.
