Hi all,

We have Outlook 2000 at work, and I was wondering is there is a way to turn off the "auto formatting" that takes place when you type anything that remotely resembles a network or web address. For example, we have a product that has the "@" in the middle, but Outlook always created a hyperlink for it.

Any ideas?

What are you using as the e-mail editor in Outlook? joegz

First of all, I feel silly even asking this in the first place--I'm not an idiot when it comes to computers (I work in Tech support at an online database company, not that means anything!), but we just got Outlook/Exchange--we used to use Netscape mail. That being said, when I go to Tools-Options-Mail Format, it has &quot;HTML&quot; in the message format. The MS Word box is not checked. I actually don't conscientiously send html emails--I imagine when I bold or italicize it translates into <b> and <i> tags when sending?

Now that I've looked through the Options, I suppose if I chose Plain Text, the web &quot;false&quot; web addresses would not auto-format to become a link. Also, this clearly pertains to outgoing messages, but will it in any way affect html messages sent to me?

Thanks!
Joe

Your on the right track in your though process. Switching to another editor will help you with that issue. There is not going to be a way to turn that off using the HTML editor.

As for incoming HTML mail I believe you will run into the same issue. However if you do a reply you can switch the format from HTML to Plain Text. joegz
