Is it just me or is this stuff impossible to put an end on. I takes me 3 time as long becuase the damn jacket is so long. So I strip back the jacket and the pairs dont want to go in. I'm using Outdoor Cat5 Uv protected. Are there special rj45 ends for outdoor cat5? Or wahts the deal?

You should be putting jacks on the ends, and using patch cables to connect from the jack to the device.

Siemon makes an industrial cat5e jack for shielded cable, I dont know if it works for OSP cable.

I have Commscope 5nF4 but I just cant get RJ45 ends on it. I did about 3 ends, but thye just take too much time. A 110 block is out of the question also. Becuase I need to go into that connecter.

Thanks

That plug setup looks like the Siemons industrial ethernet setup, they are very nice.

You say that you can't get the ends on, then you say that you did 3 but they take too much time.

It's pretty simple, strip the jacket, clean the gel off of things, untwist the pairs, line the colors up, trim to length, insert and crimp.

What exactly is the problem you are having with that? Half the stuff I have to do at work takes "too much time" :)

It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

The commscope 5NF4 is way to thick. Here is the deal. With the smart bridges stuff they give you two Rj45 ends. I used them, they went on fine. Then I started to use my Belkin rounded UTP ends. I got one on. Since then I have spent about 3 hours trying to get another one on.

While trying to put on the ends I can never get them past the contact, I strip to much away and it bends. The insulation around each strand is MUCH thicker and this does not go into the 8 channels int he RJ45 at all. The 3 I have done arent even perfect. There is a noticeable difference between the outdoor cat5 strands and normal pvc or plenum cat5 strands. They easily go in the grooves but the Outdoor Cat5 doesnt.

Once again I'm using Commscope 5NF4

If you are using a good set of crimpers you should be ok. Your application is really the only time I would directly crimp an RJ45 plug instead of using a proper jack.

I cut off some of the 5NF4 cable this afternoon and was able to crimp on an RJ45 plug with no problems. I recommend wiping off the gel filling with a paper towel before trying to terminate.

What kind of RJ45 plug are you using? I'm using Rj45 end by Belkin for Round UTP Cable.

I will take some pictures of my RJ45 End, and show you how the wires are bending.

I'm using paladin tools crimpers. It's just feeding the cable through the individual channels.

I just spoke with Kelly from netnimble.com that resells the 5NF4. She said the last batch she got was much thicker than usual. It is never that thick. She has been using Cat6 plugs.

Thanks for the picture
