I read here that the port that calls out on a MM is the 4 port, if your using a 4 port card. I assume that's still true. That port is rorary and I did a ALS on the bottom two button and 801 in my Magix 4.0. Port 4 is also unrestricted. I hear and see the CO line seized but it doesn't call out, it just times out and hangs up.
The mailbox has outcalling on and is programmed 9*xxx-xxxx.
This is a square system, 1 CO line.

Any ideas
Mike

I found this valuable post from Jukeman posted in 2006.

"Don't fall into the same mistake that I did. I very successfully migrated (using my magix 3.0 system) from old Merlin Mail - Release 3, to a new Merlin Messaging Release 4. GREAT NEW FEATURES! BUT, if you use your network, and the Administration software that runs on your PC, to set up your mailboxes; IF YOU SET UP OUTCALLING, don't use * (star) for a pause in the outcalling number, use , (comma). The system sends the * out as if you hit the star key on the phone keypad. I could not find this ANYWHERE in the documentation, but through experimentation (3+ hours) and listening to the phone line with my butt set, I realized that the *'s were being sent as keystrokes, but commas work perfectly for a puase.

I'm sure that most everyone out there knows this, but I didn't and I wanted to share it with you.

Thanks to everyone who provides information to this forum. I could not survive without it.

Make sure you unrestricted the port under both restriction and ars restriction. By defualt, the ars restriction will be 0, and not allow a call out even if you changed the restriction option to "no restriction". If that is all good (and you are programming via a phone in the mailbox not the pc admin) then try 9** as sometimes an additional pause is needed before dialing.

Being a squared system, you could also go under that port and set auto-line select to grab line 801, then 802, then 803, etc and then alleviate having to dial the "9**" or "9,," (if using the pc admin).

If you set ALS to grab dial tone first, it won't be able to ser message waiting lights. I would set it to only the bottom intercom button, and then the lines (not including the 2nd intercom button)

ARS FRL is not an option in Key Mode.

A couple of pauses might be needed, to allow time for the dial tone to connect before dialing.
