I've setup the inbound VPN and looks to work well. However, I need to allow VPN outbound (apparently some people have to connect to other places via VPN). The thing I don't know is Microsoft VPN. Is Microsoft using 3des?
I am using a cisco 851 router.

Thanks much.

I just recently purchased the Cisco 851 for work. I am having difficulty in setting up the VPN tunnel. I am replacing a Netgear router with this Cisco because it cannot handle the traffic.

I cannot find a simple setup to allow a VPN pass through tunnel. We cannot implement the Cisco VPN software. We are using this for access to our Exchange server as well.

Would you mind posting the steps you did to allow inbound VPN connections?

Thanks for the help.

For the most part, Cisco doesn't block outbound traffic. However, like most things, there are exceptions.

You will have to add an access list to allow GRE through the firewall for PPTP/L2TP to work:

access-list <listname> permit gre any any
if you are going to use Cisco VPN client, you might as well add ESP as well:
access-list <listname> permit esp any any

Make sure that the sysopt command is set properly too:

sysopt connection permit-ipsec
sysopt connection permit-pptp

Hope that helps you out.
