Outbound Route setup

Here's a challenge for all the Asterisk experts on here.

This dial plan setup and outbound route dial plans are driving me nuts! I need someone to post on here exactly how to set the system up to be able to dial local, long distance, 911, international, service numbers (311, 411, 611 etc).

The sytem is fairly plain jane with nothing special. It has a PRI card installed and works fine. They dial 9 to access the outside world (there's only one outbound route called 9_outside) but I can't get international calling to work.

In the Nortel properties, I have the dialling plan set up as follows:

[1-7]xx
9[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx
9[0-1][2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx
*xx
#xx
9011
9311
9411
9611
9911

My outbound route is set up as follows:
(forget the (prepend) column and all entries have the prefix 9)

011.
1NXXNXXXXXXX
311
411
611
911
NXXNXXXXXX

The Trunk sequence is pri-1 (the only trunk configured).

The service numbers work ok but when they try to dial intn'l, they are intercepted as soon as they dial 011 and it's a UCx message playing, not from the network provider.

I don't see anything in the logs either so what the %$@** am I doing wrong?

The gun is at my head, they just haven't pulled the trigger yet. LOL.

Hi Telcodog
try outbound route
011XXXXXXXXXXX
Nortel settings
9[0-1][2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx

Hey Telcodog, how far do you get when you dial out and what is the recording. (your call can not be completed as dialed)?

In general, when configuring UCx, it's preferable to start with no dial plan patterns on the Nortel Settings page and under Nortel Properties of all extensions. You should first make sure that the configuration of your outbound route(s) works exactly the way the customer wants (i.e., fine tune outbound routes first). As the last step, go to Nortel Settings and add dial plan patters (possibly one at a time and test it). If an extension needs extension specific dial plan patterns (not too likely), enter them in the extension configuration under Nortel Properties.

Now, to the real question - what is wrong with your configuration? [bigsmile]

From the dial plan pattern list you posted, I would avoid using [1-7]xx (that is close to an all inclusive rule that will trigger dialing of all numbers that start with 1-7 and contain 3 digits). If your extensions are for example 220 - 350, you should use specific patterns such as 2[2-9]x and 3[0-5]x.

The last 4 patterns could be changed into 9[3,4,6,9]11.

The patterns 9[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx and 9[0-1][2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx look good - they trigger dialing of 10 and 11 digit numbers with the prefix 9.

The prefix *xx is almost okay (users just won't be able to dial *411 or other feature codes with more than 2 digits).

As far as I know, UCx has no features that would match the pattern #xx - so it is unnecessary and should be removed.

And finally - the pattern 9011 that you have in there - that's your problem! This pattern indicates that the system should initiate dialing as soon as it encounters these four digits! My personal guess is that once you remove this pattern, long distance dialing will magically start working.

And one more recommendation - add a timeout pattern .T to allow the system to start dialing if the user does not enter any digits within the timeout period - which by default is 4000 msec (the pattern .T means that one or more digits followed by a timeout should be dialed).
If you want the timeout to be used for example for long distance numbers only, you could use 9011.T (instead of the completely generic .T pattern).
