One of our customers has 4 analog trunks through Comcast. If he dials out from his own extension, he would like a different phone number to appear on the called party's caller id than normally appears when outbound calls are made. What determines the number that appears on caller id? Is this controlled via ARS?

What would be the least complicated way to accomplish what the customer is looking for? Ideally, I'd like for him to simply pick up his extension and dial as normal, but have a specific caller id displayed.

Thank you!

Assuming each trunk have its own assigned number. So you should have 4 different numbers on 4 analog trunks.

Go to "Line" -> (assuming all 4 analog lines have incoming line group ID=0) change the "outgoing Group ID" on each to:

analog line 1 = outgoing line group ID=1
analog line 2 = outgoing line group ID=2
analog line 3 = outgoing line group ID=3
analog line 4 = outgoing line group ID=4

go to the extension you want -> user -> short code tab -> add short code

?/./dial/Line Group ID = (one of the above) or
9N/N/Line Group ID = (one of the above) if you using 9 for outside line
save -> reboot PABX test dialing out, see which line group ID has the correct number -> update the users short code with correct line -> save -> DONE.

This will however use the same line every time that specific extension is making outgoing call, this could cause issues when the line is already taken by another outgoing/incoming call.

Analog lines are verry basic & their CLI is fixed

The best option for your customer would be to migrate to ISDN2 if possible

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

If I renumber the outgoing Line Group IDs, do I need to update all of the areas where these are referenced, or will they be updated automatically? For example, the Short Codes section currently indicates a Line Group ID of 0 for all of the existing short codes. Additionally, the Line Group ID is 0 for all entries under ARS.

Thanks!

You'll need to change those manually, they will not change automatically because the system doesn't know what your plans are. You can leave one of the lines as 0 or more if you do have multiple lines on the same number, it's only lines with different numbers that need unique outgoing groups in your scenario :)
