Hello Everyone,
After Hurricane Sandy we realized we were not really happy with our current setup. We are making some changes with our circuits but just wanted to get some feedback on the following. We currently have roughly 60 POTS lines with analog phones sitting out in various depts. and we direct them to use though in the event that we lose our PBX and out out dialing capability etc. We are now considering power fail circuits coming into the pbx with the same analog phones being placed out there. Any thoughts or suggestions. Basically our current scenario these phones are live but are only used when there is an issue with the system or we are doing PEPS, updates etc.

Thanks,
Jim

Nothing beats analog lines not going through the PBX. You have to account for the PBX not working.

Power fail transfer units have been and are still a vital part of hospitals and other businesses where the need for that outside line is imparative. I would recommend going with a couple of these, each provides 8 lines with 8 POTS lines. Place the PF phones in strategic locations and replace the rest of the analog phones with VoIP phones. When the Power fail unit sees the power drop, it moves the POTS line off of the PBX and out to the PF phone. You'll save money by dropping the number of POTS lines and going with 1 T1 and 16 POTS lines.

PFTU is not what the users think. In a hospital, the chances of power failure are almost zero. The chances of catastrophic PBX failure are higher, and the PFTU has to be manually switched. So, it's as good as no PFTU until you arrive to make the switch.

I am taking ALL of our PFTUs out and just feeding the PF phone directly
