Out of topic - please help

Hi list,
This question is not regarding asp, but i don't know whom to ask to and i really need your help.

We are renting a sql server version 7.0 from a web-hosting company.
We are using proxy server and a modem to connect to outside our LAN. We
are also using Wingate software as the network point.
I tried to access to the database server using SQL Enterprise Manager, but i can't. (I installed sql-server 7.0 in my windows 98 - desktop version for testing purpose)

I also cannot ping to the server. This means i (guess) have to do some changes at my firewalls setting in the wingate. My hardware staff allready left our company, so none of us knows about this firewall settings. What i want to do is, let one of my pc have the direct access to the server with/without using proxy server. Can you all please guide me how to solve this problem.

are you trying to ping your firewall/gateway using IP address or netbios names? Can you see it in net neighborhood? Are they diff domains? Can you ping your box from the server?

Dear Tgoodman,

If i ping to the database providers IP from proxy server, i am able to do that. But i cannot ping from my normal pc.

My proxy server is in domain_1 while my pc is in domain_2. I can see my pc through domain_1 and vice versa. There is no problem with internal network. The problem is i cannot ping to server outside my LAN using the normal pc but can ping to server outside my Lan using my proxy server.


FYI: I can access to internet using normal pc.
