Hi list,
This question is not regarding asp, but i don't know whom to ask to and i really need your help.

We are renting a sql server version 7.0 from a web-hosting company.
We are using proxy server and a modem to connect to outside our LAN. We
are also using Wingate software as the network point.
I tried to access to the database server using SQL Enterprise Manager, but i can't. (I installed sql-server 7.0 in my windows 98 - desktop version for testing purpose)

I also cannot ping to the server. This means i (guess) have to do some changes at my firewalls setting in the wingate. My hardware staff allready left our company, so none of us knows about this firewall settings. What i want to do is, let one of my pc have the direct access to the server with/without using proxy server. Can you all please guide me how to solve this problem.

Really need help urgently,

Thanks
rgds,

Yes, you will need to talk to your network admin... they need to open up a port for you to talk to your remote server on... probably port #1433

Also, on your client machine, make sure that your default network library is TCP/IP and is talking on port 1433 -- the default is Named Pipes, and that doesn't work...

hope it helps! :)
