out of streams error and gil - AIX 5.3

Hi, has anyone on AIX 5.3 ever run into "out of streams" errors making the system useless? We've had this happen three times which meant we couldn't log in because inetd could get a stream for sshd. This might be related to "gil" which CPU usage had been growing in the week up to this.
