Hi Everyone,

My Windows NT 4.0 Exchange Server is running dangerously low in disk space.

My partitions are set up as follows:
C:\ System Drive 9.00MB left
D:\ WINNT folder 4.00MB left
E:\ Exchange drive 7.44GB left

I am trying to avoid resizing partitions as I am undertaking a full upgrade of Servers and OS in about a fortnight.

Is there any rubbish or temp files that can be deleted to free some space?

Or does anyone know of some good software that will do the job for me (preferably free or shareware)

Any ideas at all will be hugley appreciated

Thanks Varddsy

Hi Varddsy

It depends on your version off Exchange but the following may help. You can do a defrag\compact and repair of the Exchange database. This should recover ALOT of space. I used this for Exchange Ver 5.5 some time ago.

It's too much to go into here so go to
and search for the following article No. 163627, Also pay this a visit
It can be tricky so read carefully.

A problem you might run into with the defrag. Say your Exchange DB is 10mb. You need at LEAST 10Mb of free disk space to do the defrag. You may have to copy the database to a drive with sufficient space. Then copy back when complete.

Hope this helps. Let me know how you go.
