When trying to open approximately 17 linked files in Excel I run into an Out of Memory error. Is there any file compressions or tricks available to make these file work together with getting an Out of Memory message?

krizma5683,

Assuming that purchasing additional memory is not an option, here's a possibility...

If your application is one where you are currently linking these files so as to be able to "gather data" - for producing summary reports, for example, then you could potentially "alter" this method of "gathering data", as follows:

In your main (summary) file, include a VBA routine that would open each of the other workbooks - one-at-a-time - and "capture" (copy/paste) the necessary data into your summary file. This routine could be attached to a macro button that you could activate whenever you require an update.

Please advise as to whether the above "guess" is close to describing your situation, and whether you need further help with the VBA code. :)
