Hi Technical Folks,

I am wondering if there is a way to isolate and identify what would cause report to be out of balance, due to dual entry accounting. Can it be some sort of computer glitch or something corrupted.
Well here is what is happeneing. I was doing my year end adjustments, Also i had to recalculate my fiscal year, on account of a stub period. Butafter completing my accrual and adjustments when i isolate a particular period i get the Out of Balance message. However when i run the entire year's general ledger detail report i get no messages and there is no trace of my transactions.
If anyone can help your solutions will be greatly appreciated.
Either thanks in advance for even reading the Query.

Dont know if this would get you more info or not- but you could try running general ledger detail by source report-all sources and all batches for the period where you know the out of balance event is occurring. Just print to screen and then scan the report and see if you can find an out of balance journal. If you can maybe that will give you the clue as to where to look next.

Thinking about it a bit more, If entire year is in balance, and you have one period identified as out of balance, unless there are serious computer problems, it would seem like there is a onesided correction in another period. You might try printing trial balances for each period, one at a time, to the screen, and see if you can find another one out of balance too.

(We have had several out of balance postings in payroll when the system messed up some payroll tax computations. I notice in one of your prior posts you were considering copying some data, if you did that perhaps the system dropped an entry in the copy process.)

Ive never worked with the 13month years so I dont know what kind of special situations those might create or if there is a special setup necessary to make them work properly.

Missing entries-the only thing I can think of is to check the posting date and company on your printed journal, sometimes I've made entries to the wrong year (or with multiple companies, the wrong company).
